Centred on Learning Innovation Fund (CLIF)
Call for Proposals
Deadline: February 1, 2019
This open round of the Centred on Learning Innovation Fund (CLIF) is intended to provide an opportunity to explore innovation in teaching and learning regardless of focus. In the past the CLIF funds were focused on projects which addressed assessment, open learning, collaborative learning, teaching culture, high impact practices, and more.
Through the Strategic Mandate Agreement between the university and the province, the University of Windsor is committed to:
“providing an excellent education that prepares the students for life after graduation. We know that we must do several things if we are to fulfill this commitment. First, through continual academic program innovation we seek to integrate into the learning process a workplace or community-based opportunity that provides experience, mentorship, and maximum value to the degree earned as a student seeks to successfully enter the workplace. Second, we are committed to having campus learning and social spaces that support innovation in teaching and learning, collaboration, partnerships, and community engagement.”
Students collaborate with faculty, staff and peers in the University’s learning environments, involved in deep learning and creative and critical thinking. Consistent with the University’s strategic priorities, these practices contribute to exceptional and supportive undergraduate and graduate learning experiences, enhance the effectiveness, efficiency and richness of academic programs, support and expand research and creative activity, promote informed global interaction, and foster strong community relations, both on and off campus.
The Centre for Teaching and Learning welcomes proposals on these and other topics.
These projects might include, but are not limited to:
- fair and consistent evaluation of teaching,
- peer evaluation of teaching,
- effective practices for using evaluations to improve teaching,
- reflective teaching,
- change management and educational leadership,
- mentoring strategies to support faculty and their contributions,
- collaboration with GAs and TAs,
- community building,
- teaching support,
- high-impact practices, and
- team-based teaching
Preference will be given to projects that:
- offer a clear rationale and demonstrate a clear plan
- demonstrate consistency with the University’s strategic priorities;
- demonstrate potential for educational impact;
- foster inclusion;
- build on existing research and literature;
- emphasize collaboration; and
- establish assessment procedures to evaluate the project.
- Departmental/program applications showing application across an entire program/department: $5000
- Individual, including collaborations among individuals: $2500
Applications must be submitted by the principal applicant electronically by February 1, 2019.
The purpose of the Centred on Learning Innovation Fund is to stimulate the development, implementation, and assessment of innovative teaching and learning.
Applications are encouraged from:
- All disciplines
- Instructors employing all modes of university course delivery;
- Individuals holding a full-time teaching appointment (including tenured and tenure-track faculty, Learning Specialists, and Limited Term faculty and AAS appointments) at the University of Windsor for the term of the grant (May 2017 through April 2018); and
- Individuals or teams
Applicants must complete the online application including a project description (2 pages maximum) as well as a proposed budget. Please see the form below for further details.

Conditions of the Award
Grantees will submit a final report demonstrating the findings and confirming completion of the project by June 30, 2020. Please note: Abstracts and reports of successful applications will be posted on the CLIF webpage.
Funds will be disbursed in one installment and must be spent by April 30, 2020. Please take into account whether research ethics clearance is needed as you prepare your application. The following item is not an eligible expense:
- course release
Expenses with Limited Eligibility
- Regional travel for research purposes cannot exceed 20% of the total award;
- Campus hospitality (e.g., working lunches) cannot exceed 10% of the award amount (no alcohol is permitted);
- Equipment and Apparatus (including computer hardware) up to a maximum of 20% of the total award.
